S6 150mm FILTER HOLDER SYSTEM

Let me introduce you to the The NiSi S6 150mm Filter Holder Kit with Landscape CPL for Canon 17mm TS-E F/4.

One of he first of the new NiSi S6 range designed for ultra wide-angle lenses without a standard filter thread. The S6 holder is part of 150 mm a wide filter system. The use of filters of such a large size is necessary with ultra-wide-angle lenses to avoid vignette .The S6 beautifully designed for durability, adapter ring ,features an aluminum alloy construction allows very quick installation and removal without removing the lens from the camera. Also the S6 allows the use of an integrated Landscape CPL and two 150mm wide filters (2mm thick) with 360 degrees of rotation for the Polariser. The advantage of the S6 grip over other solutions for the 150 mm system is the possibility of screwing the  CPL polariser directly into the ring, and its rotation with the use of  two wheels located on the sides of the ring. This great solution is known to users of the V5 holder in the NiSi 100 mm system, and now it is also available in the 150 mm system. The S6 features a new locking system to lock the main filter holder in position. The integrated wheel can be easily rotated to lock the holder in place with a locking system that feels natural and easy to use.

This is my own impressions of the S6 tests with the Canon TS-4 F4  lens together with Canon 5DMK4.

NiSi has got its users used to the fact that their products are of the highest quality. The holder with the ring and polariser are packed in a thick-walled pouch, carefully sewn from nicely modern material. The main compartment with the holder and the ring, and the side pocket spacing  a polarising filter. The packaging has a strap to help attaching the pouch to the tripod. The whole kit looks very good, all the elements fit perfectly. There is no room for compromise here.

NiSi S6 Landscape NC CPL For S6 150mm Holder is an ultra HD polariser designed to eliminate reflections and glare effectively when using ultra-wide-angle lenses. Is made using Nitto polarising film and increases the saturation of the scene. The Landscape  CPL provides maximum polarisation of 99.9%* that emphasises the natural colours of the scene and has a greater haze reduction effect.A geared design allows the integrated CPL to be rotated while using 150mm filters using two gear located on the rear of the holder, a design feature taken from  leading 100mm  holders.  The holder allows very quick installation and removal without removing the lens from the camera.  The front of the holder with clips holding the 150mm filters can be rapidly removed to allow focus and easy replacement or removal of the filters.

The S6 has an updated design based on feedback from  users over the S5 including, the design of the front filter holder has been refined to make it easier to insert and remove ND filters.A new integrated locking system to lock the front filter holder.New matting treatment on the inside of the adaptor to reduce reflection, ghosting, and flare..All this looks and work excellent.

The holder is mounted on the same principle as in the 100 mm system – by pulling back a small metal catch. A novelty in the 150 mm system is the possibility to use a polarising filter and up to additional  filters at the same time. The holder has two slots allowing the use of two square filters (half or half and a full grey filter, the so-called ND) and a polarizer. The biggest advantage of the S6 is the ability to rotate the polarizer with the aforementioned wheels, regardless of the rotation of the holder with half or ND filters installed! The filters move with adequate resistance in the holder, which is particularly well visible in the video at the end of this article. Thanks to this, there is no fear that the heavy glass filter will come out of the holder when carrying the camera or in a strong wind.

The Holder S6 is a great addition for fans of wide-angle lenses. The biggest advantage of the S6 is of course the ability to use both a polarizer and half or ND filters together. As befits a 150 mm system, all the elements are quite large: the polarizer itself is 14.8 cm. However, the whole thing is made so modern that we do not have the impression that we are lugging unnecessary lumber into the open air. For those who hesitate to enter the NiSi 150 mm system, I recommend the S6 holder!. NiSi system has some noticeable improvements over the other filter system i used in the past. First, the build quality is better, which is certainly big advantage. Especially with the carrying case, the NiSi system feels a bit more complete. But, more importantly, the polarizing filter situation strongly favours NiSi. . There aren’t huge differences between the other brand I use, but NiSi just makes our lives a lot easier when we need to use a polarizer and a grad filter at the same time (which happens relatively often for our landscape work).
